In the late 1960s, Gerry Clifford took over older brother Tom’s liquor store in Pittsford, NY, while Tom was away serving his country. Gerry enjoyed the business so much that in 1968 he opened a store of his own. A store with a simple focus: Its customers.
Gerry had learned the importance of customer care at a young age from his father in the saloon & restaurant business. And he carried that dedication to customers with him to House of Bacchus. It continues today: Walk into House of Bacchus and you’re likely to get a chance to speak with Gerry himself, still in the store daily, still very hands-on in the operation. If he’s not there, he might be out on a delivery – which he continues to make on weekdays and weekends – or on one of his many wine buying trips, ensuring that House of Bacchus customers get the best wine selection and value possible.
